Particle Forest

3D printed trees and point-cloud simulation

Particle Forest is a series of ancient trees of significant historical, cultural, and ecological importance. We have developed 3D printing heritage trees and digital simulations from laser-scanned point clouds. With terrestrial laser scanning data, ancient trees can be recorded in immersive detail. These irreplaceable specimens can be archived as point cloud formats that record their morphology and aesthetic character. 3D prints of laser-scanned ancient trees can serve as physical artifacts for archiving, exhibition, and education. 3D printing and digital simulation are accessible media outcomes from the data for building awareness of these charismatic megaflora's grandeur, mystery, and plight.
